On Saturday, April 11, 2020, Jacqueline Sue (McMullen) Himmel, 54, loving mother and wife passed away at her home in Millsboro, DE.
Jackie was born April 16, 1965, in Pottstown, PA to Arland McMullen and Yvonne (Green) Roman. Growing up as a child she enjoyed the outdoors and fishing with her father, as well as gardening with her mother. Her interest in medicine led her into the medical profession as a lab technician for over 15 years. Later she owned and operated a small cleaning service in Chester Springs, PA for 10 years before moving to Millsboro, DE where she was involved in patient advocacy and also found great joy working alongside her husband of 36 years, Ronald Himmel, assisting in his home repair business.
Jackie’s life was one of overcoming challenges. A teenage mom with the determination that later drove her to graduate college. A cancer survivor who helped others in their battle with the disease. But her true calling was being a mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her children, whether it was backyard baseball as kids, to the multiple hour-long phone conversations she would have with each one of them daily as adults. Watching her children become parents and grandchildren brought another level of profound joy to her life. “Nanny” could never get enough time with each of her seven grandchildren. Her focus was to teach her children to be the very best parent they can be. That responsibility, compassion, and honesty are not just words you say, but actions you take and the most important values a person can have but are found less and less in this world today. She taught them to strive for excellence and instilled in each of them a drive that no obstacle is too difficult as long as you have each other and family. She was the first you would call with a problem, the shoulder you could always cry on, and the main leader in the celebrations of your success. Jackie was the glue that held her family together, through good and bad, and words cannot express how deeply she will be missed.
Jackie was preceded in death by her mother Yvonne (Green) Roman, stepfather George Roman, brother Arland (Mick) McMullen and daughter-in-law Stephanie Schaeffer. She is survived by her husband Ronald Himmel, her four children, Joshua Seasholtz, husband to Erika (Segneri) Seasholtz, Jennifer Seasholtz, fiancé of Kyle Osenbach, Jill (Seasholtz) Tilling, wife of Evan Tilling, and Ronnie Himmel, husband to Huijiao Zhang, as well as seven grandchildren, Gavin, Rylin, Layla, Landon, Jacob, Gage (the Gigster), and Maddox.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the family’s discretion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Autism Speaks (https://www.autismspeaks.org/).
